Description
Logan Davidson is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Oakland Athletics organization. He played college baseball at Clemson University before the Athletics selected him in the first round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft.
Davidson attended Providence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2016, The Charlotte Observer named him their high school baseball player of the year. He enrolled at Clemson University, where he played college baseball for the Clemson Tigers. A three year starter at Clemson playing in 187 games, Davidson hit .290 with .933 OPS and 42 home runs. In 2017 and 2018, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
After being drafted by the A’s, Davidson was assigned to the Vermont Lake Monsters where he hit .239, and struck out at a 23.1% rate in 54 games. He was then a non-roster invite to spring training where he only had nine at bats due to the Covid shutdown. Davidson would not play until 2021 where he was promoted and had 448 at-bats for the Double-A Midland Rockhounds. He struggled after coming off an entire year off, hitting .212 with 30.1% strikeout rate. Davidson’s play slightly improved in 2022 with Double-A Midland but he still struck out at a below average rate.
It wasn’t until 2023 where things really started to click for the former Clemson Tiger. In 48 games with Double-A Midland, Davidson hit .297 with a .863 OPS and eventually earned his promotion to Triple-A Las Vegas on June 16th, 2023.
Davidson would continue to play well in Triple-A, his on-base and slugging numbers took a dip compared to Double-A, but his strikeout rate decreased to 22.0% which was a career best for him. Davidson played almost all of the infield positions for Las Vegas in an attempt to get him more at-bats and see where his glove would play best.
In 2024, Davidson had the best season of his professional career playing in 87 games with Las Vegas and hitting .300 with 14 HR’s, 51 RBI’s and a .901 OPS for the Aviators. He also added 23 doubles and 7 stolen bases.
The Copa de la Diversión (transl. Fun Cup) is an initiative by Minor League Baseball to promote the sport and connect its teams to their Hispanic/Latinx communities. Teams adopt a culturally-relevant on-field persona for certain games each season. The promotion started in 2017 with the Es Divertido Ser Un Fan (“It’s Fun to Be a Fan”) fan engagement program. Four teams participated: the Las Vegas 51s, who took the field as the Reyes de Plata (“Silver Kings”);[4] the Charlotte Knights as the Charlotte Caballeros; the Visalia Rawhide, who played as the Visalia Toros; and the Kane County Cougars, who did not change their name for the promotion. In 2018, the program was renamed Copa de la Diversión and expanded to 33 teams. A trophy (the “Fun Cup”) was awarded to the Albuquerque Isotopes franchise, who played as the Mariachis de Nuevo México and set new attendance records during Copa games. In 2019, participation increased to 72 teams. Six teams that participated in 2018 using direct Spanish translations of their usual team name adopted new identities for 2019. The number of participants increased to 92 for the 2020 season.
Nevada is known as the Silver State due to its rich mining history. The abundance of silver in the state lead to its admittance, as a state, into the United States during the later stages of the Civil War. Mines across Nevada relied upon the hard working migrant work force to extricate the precious ore from the ground. The importance of the Hispanic / Latino immigrants in Nevada’s original industry lead to the birth of this state and in doing so we pay homage to this history. This is why Reyes de Plata (Silver Kings) was conceived. The logo has fun and brings in elements of both the meaning of the name and the Hispanic / Latino culture. The miner carries a pick axe, but the head is a skull reminiscent of the Dia de los Muertos celebrations and the sugar skull.
The featured official Reyes de Plata de Las Vegas Copa de la Diversion “DAVIDSON 8” WSI Hooded XL Shirt was issued to and worn in practice by Logan Davidson as a member of the Las Vegas Aviators. The Copa de la Diversión (transl. Fun Cup) is an initiative by Minor League Baseball to promote the sport and connect its teams to their Hispanic/Latinx communities. Teams adopt a culturally-relevant on-field persona for certain games each season. Davidson signed the Shirt and added “Practice Worn” and “Go A’s” in black. The Shirt features a Las Vegas Aviators player issued “DAVIDSON 8” label slightly below the back neckline of the Shirt. Unique Shirt for an Aviators Fan!!!
