Description
Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat is an American retired professional wrestler best known for his work with the American Wrestling Association (AWA), Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). Steamboat is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential professional wrestlers of all time.
In JCP and WCW, he was a one-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, a four-time United States Heavyweight Champion, a four-time World Television Champion, a 12-time World Tag Team Champion (eight under the WCW banner, one (though unofficial) under the NWA banner, and three under the Mid-Atlantic banner), and a two-time Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion. In the WWF/E, Steamboat was a one-time Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009.
On the November 22nd, 1986 edition of Superstars, Steamboat got a shot at the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship against Randy “Macho Man” Savage. Steamboat lost the match by countout but after the match, Savage continued to assault him and injured Steamboat’s larynx with the ring bell, beginning an angle between the two. On the January 3rd, 1987 Saturday Night’s Main Event IX, Steamboat returned from his injury and prevented Savage from attacking George Steele like he had done to Steamboat six weeks prior.
At WrestleMania III, Steamboat defeated Randy “Macho Man” Savage for the Intercontinental Championship. The highly influential match was considered an instant classic by both fans and critics and was named 1987’s Match of the Year by both Pro Wrestling Illustrated and the Wrestling Observer.
WrestleMania III was the third annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). The event was held on March 29, 1987, at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. There were 12 matches, with the main event featuring Hulk Hogan successfully defending the WWF World Heavyweight Championship against André the Giant. The event is considered to be the pinnacle of the 1980s wrestling boom, with almost one million fans watching the event at 160 closed-circuit locations in North America and the number of people watching via pay-per-view estimated at several million.
The featured Detroit Pontiac Stadium #3 Seat Back has been signed and inscribed by Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. The Wrestling Hall of Famer has added “Wrestlemania III, 3-29-87 Vs Randy Savage, We Stole the Show” in black. The autograph and inscriptions are flawless. There is a small Pontiac Silverdome nameplate specifying that it’s an authentic Stadium seat back from Wrestlemania III. The seatback measures approximately 18″ x 18″ in size. The autograph includes an official James Spence Authentication (JSA) hologram for authenticity purposes. The signing of this item was witnessed by JSA. Amazing and one of a kind Memento for a Wrestling Fan!!!!
