Ryan Nutof is a pitcher in the Cincinnati Reds Organization. He was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 16th Round of the 2017 MLB Draft. Nutof was a standout at South Elgin High School in South Helgin, Illinois. In his senior year, the talented pitcher went 8-1 with a 0.54 ERA, while fanning 112 batters. He was named to the All-State, All-Area, and All-Upstate 8 teams. Nutof attended the University of Michigan.

In his freshman season he took the field 15 times, making 14 starts for the Wolverines and had a record of 5-3 with a 3.71 ERA and 63 strikeouts. He also earned a win in the Big Ten Tournament game against the Iowa Hawkeyes. (May 21) For his efforts, he was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and to the Big-Ten All-Freshman team. He was also named the 11th-best prospect in the Big Ten for the 2017 MLB draft by D1Baseball.com.

In his sophomore season, Nutof appeared in 21 games for Michigan, making 11 starts. He recorded 50 strikeouts in 54.0 innings pitched and finished the season with a 6-3 overall record. Nutof picked up a 6-2 victory over Canisius on February 20th, 2016 in his first start of the season. He did not allow an earned run through his first two starts and tossed a season-high six complete innings in a 10-4 victory over UIC on March 26th. The former Wolverine struck out a season-high four batters in just 2.1 innings pitched against Rutgers on May 8th, 2016.

In 2017, Nutof started 12 games and posted a 4.52 earned run average with 71 strikeouts for the Wolverines. He finished the season with 71.2 innings pitched through 16 appearances. He struck out a career-high 10 batters through 6.1 innings against Northwestern in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament on May 24th. He added eight strikeouts at USC (Mar. 4), at Lipscomb (Mar. 10), and at Maryland. (Mar. 25) The right-handed pitcher also threw six complete innings and allowed just one run on five hits against Creighton. (Feb. 25) For his stellar college career, he was Selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 16th Round of the 2017 MLB Draft.

In his 2nd year of Pro Ball, Nutof was one of six Daytona Tortugas selected to the Florida State League All-Star Game in Jupiter, Florida. In 17 relief outings for the Tortugas in 2019, the 23-year-old right handed reliever had a stellar 2-0 mark with a 3.00 ERA (7 ER in 21.0 IP), six saves and 27 strikeouts. After surrendering six runs in his first two appearances of the season, Nutof was lights out. This South Elgin, Illinois native tallied an astounding 2-0 record with a 0.47 ERA (1 ER in 19.1IP) six saves, four walks and 24 strikeouts in his last 15 outings. By May 24th, Nutof had made the most relief appearance in the league (17) and sat in a three-way tie for second in the FSL in saves (6). He also tied with Fort Myers’ Hector Lujan for the lowest walks-per-nine ratio (1.29). Splitting time between Daytona and Chattanooga, Nutof went 7-1 with 10 saves and a 3.83 ERA. He also struck out 56 batters in 49 innings.

The Chattanooga Lookouts are a Minor League Baseball team of the Southern League and the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. They are located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and are named for the nearby Lookout Mountain. The talented pitcher has signed the cleats and added “Game Worn” to the right one.
