Description
AJ Francis is a defensive lineman with the Washington Redskins. He played his college football at the University of Maryland. During his five years there — which included a red-shirt season — Francis tallied 143 tackles, 9.5 sacks and four blocked kicks. Francis has also been a member of the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks.
Francis’ two best attributes as far as NFL talent evaluators are concerned are his size (6-foot-5, 309 pounds) and his versatility. During his career at Maryland, Francis played every position on the defensive line and operated out of a regular 4-3 alignment and a 3-4 as well. Several teams were interested in him as a tackle or an end, while others saw him as a potential nose guard, capable of occupying blockers and keeping the line jammed up so backs have no place to run.
As a senior, Francis moved outside to the end position — where he’d never played before — and responded with a stellar season. He led the Terrapins with three recovered fumbles and three blocked kicks. He tied for second on the team with four sacks and was third with nine tackles for losses.
The Maryland Terrapins ‘Maryland Pride’ uniform were inspired by characteristics specific to the Maryland state flag and the University of Maryland. The jersey numbers, cleats, and gloves all feature a custom Maryland flag print. From head-to-toe, the right and left sides of the uniform coordinate with the two patterns found on the state’s flag including a custom helmet.
The ‘Pride’ uniform, designed by Under Armour, pays homage to the special Terrapin football heritage and to those who have taken the field as a Terp since the beginning of the football program. The Terps’ UA COMPFIT PRIDE PANTS are built with muscle-boosting, core-stabilizing technology.
Francis wore this dynamite red and black shirt in pre-game when the Maryland Terrapins faced the Miami Hurricanes on September 5th, 2011. This was one of the games that Maryland Terrapins donned their ‘Maryland Pride” uniform. Terrapins Kicker Nick Ferrara kicked a 32-yard field goal to put Maryland ahead 26-24 with 1:39 left, Danny O’Brien threw for 348 yards and a touchdown, and defensive back Cameron Chism played a part in two touchdowns. The Terrapins edged the Hurricanes 32-24. The shirt features “Pride of Maryland September 5th, 2011” across the chest. Francis has signed the shirt and added “Worn Pregame Vs Miami 2011” in silver. Unique item for a Terps fan!
