AJ Francis is a free agent defensive tackle most recently playing for the New York Giants. He played his college football at the University of Maryland. During his five years there — which included a red-shirt season — Francis tallied 143 tackles, 9.5 sacks and four blocked kicks. Francis has also been a member of the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins.
As a senior at Maryland, Francis moved outside to the end position — where he’d never played before — and responded with a stellar season. He led the Terrapins with three recovered fumbles and three blocked kicks. He tied for second on the team with four sacks and was third with nine tackles for losses.
On November 16th, 2015, Francis was acquired off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks. On November 24, he was released by the team, but signed to the practice squad two days later. On November 30th, 2015, he chose to be promoted to the active roster in Seattle over resigning with the Dolphins to their active roster. On March 8, 2016 Francis signed his one-year exclusive-rights tender deal to return to Seattle.
On October 12th, 2016 Francis signed with the Washington Redskins. He was promoted to the active roster on November 29, 2016. He was waived on December 10, 2016 and was re-signed back to the practice squad. Francis signed a futures contract with the Redskins on January 2nd, 2017. Francis played in 6 games in 2017 and recorded 18 tackles.
The featured teal and orange shirt/jersey was worn by Francis when he replaced offensive lineman Bryant McKinnie at Jimmy Wilson’s annual charity softball game. On Saturday, June 14, 2014, the Above .500 Foundation hosted the First Annual Jimmy Wilson’s Celebrity Softball Charity Game , featuring several players from the Miami Dolphins including Jason Fox, AJ Francis, Reshad Jones, Brent Grimes, Mike Pouncey and other local celebrities. The game was held at Florida International University baseball field and was sponsored by Kicks For Pennies.
Proceeds from the event assisted Above .500 Foundation’s “Dream Rallies.” These rallies are hosted throughout South Florida schools and encourage middle and high school students to lead positive lives and reach their goals using hard work and dedication. – The event also supported other local charities and raised awareness with informative booths.
Francis was the MVP of the game hitting the game-winning, three-run homer that led the teal jersey team to a 7-6 victory. Francis has signed the back of the shirt/jersey and added “Wore McKinnie’s shirt since he couldn’t make it. Hit 3-Run HR Named MVP!!” Awesome and unique item for a Dolphins fan!!!
