Description
Asaph Schwapp was a fullback who played for the United Football League’s Hartford Colonials as well as the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. Schwapp was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut where he played high school football at Weaver High School in Hartford where he earned first team all-state honors and named Gatorade Player of the Year in Connecticut in 2004 as a junior. He also played inside linebacker.
He won a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, where he played, mostly as a blocking fullback, and got his degree in finance. Schwapp was a big, thick, tough physical lead blocker who played almost as rugged as an offensive lineman in the backfield. Schwapp was a great special teams wedgebreaker and a smart player of high character. On May 8th, 2013, Asaph Schwapp unfortunately lost his battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
He entered the NFL signing as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys in 2009. In 2010 he signed with the Hartford Colonials. A knee injury while playing for the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League ended his chance to play in the National Football League, but didn’t alter his positive and inspirational attitude. Schwapp never turned down an opportunity to promote the team or work in the community. He also had worked as a Merrill Lynch financial adviser since 2011.
The featured gray adidas sweatpants were worn in training by Asaph Schwapp as a member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The adidas sweatpants have been signed by the former UFL star “Asaph Schwapp Play Like a Champion Today” in black sharpie. The size tag has faded but they are very large sweatpants and Schwapp’s #44 has been written on the tag in black. The pants show good wear.
