Description
Cole Wick is a tight end for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). Wick has also been a member of the Detroit Lions. He played college football at the University of the Incarnate Word. Wick is from Hallettsville, Texas. He played high school football at Sacred Heart Catholic High.
The talented tight end went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. He signed with Detroit as an undrafted free agent, and because of his size (6-foot-7) and the school he came from, he almost immediately became a curiosity. The tight end had free agent offers from the Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders before signing with the Detroit Lions. Along with Myke Tavarres, who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, Cole Wick was the first Incarnate Word football player to make an NFL roster. Not bad considering Incarnate Word, a Catholic university in San Antonio, didn’t have football until 2009, starting in Division II. The past three years, the Cardinals have played in the Football Championship Subdivision, but won’t be postseason eligible until 2017.
Then he received opportunities most undrafted rookies don’t receive, especially under Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell. By organized team activities and minicamp, Wick was working with the first unit because of injuries to Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew and Timothy Wright. Short on tight ends, Detroit had little choice but to place Wick in with the starters.
Wick might come from a small school, but he has something working for him. His offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Incarnate Word was Tony Marciano who was also the tight ends coach for the Indianapolis Colts in 1998-2001 and mentored Ken Dilger, a Pro Bowler, and Marcus Pollard, who played 14 years. Wick notched 832 receiving yards and 5 TDs in his college career.
At Incarnate Word Cardinal’s NFL Pro Day, Wick (6-foot-5, 256 pounds) had an official 40-yard dash of 4.93 seconds, and his 36 1/2-inch vertical would have ranked second among tight ends at the Combine.
On September 11th, 2016 in the Detroit Lions season opener against the Indianapolis Colts, Wick recorded his first career reception for five yards in his NFL debut. Sadly, his rookie season came to an early end after suffering a knee injury. He was placed on injured reserve on November 1st, 2016.
The featured Incarnate Word Cardinals team logo adidas adizero gloves were game worn by Cole Wick as a member of the Cardinals. These gloves are impossible to find! Cole Wick has signed both gloves and added “Game Worn” to the left one and “Go Cards” to the right one in black. The gloves show good use!
****Please note that the signatures have slightly bled.
