Description
Dario Pizzano is a free agent outfielder and first baseman most recently playing for the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League. The Patriots are the winningest franchise of the Atlantic League, capturing six Championship Series titles in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009, and most recently, 2015. Pizzano was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of Columbia University. He has also been a member of the New York Mets organization.
A three-time first team All-Ivy League outfielder, Pizzano was the Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Year in 2010 and Player of the Year in 2012. He is currently tied for the program record in home runs with 25, matched by former Major Leaguer Gene Larkin ’84. During his three years at Columbia, Pizzano has batted .364 in 133 games. He ranks among Columbia’s top-ten in career batting average, slugging percentage (.647), on-base percentage (.448), doubles (43), home runs (25), runs batted in (108) and total bases (293).
Pizzano spent seven years in the Seattle Mariners organization where he has a lifetime .283 batting average with 53 homers and 361 RBI. His most notable accolades include being named a Mid-Season All-Star in 2013 and 2015 for the Clinton Lumberkings and the Jackson Generals respectively. His best season came in 2013 where he totaled 70 RBI and eight homeruns en route to a .311 batting average. In 2015, he had a .308 batting average, 68 hits, four triples and 33 RBI in 58 games for the Generals.
He also had stints in AAA Tacoma in 2016 and 2017 and was a two-time All-Star in the Midwest and Southern Leagues. Pizzano has driven in 376 runs, to go along with 157 doubles and a .280 batting average over his eight seasons of professional baseball. His career numbers include 28 triples, 56 homeruns and a .429 slugging percentage.
Pizzano spent the 2018 season in the Seattle Mariners organization with the Arkansas Travelers, hitting .285 with 11 homeruns and 59 RBI. He began the 2019 season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets major-league club. He had 37 hits and 15 RBI in 35 games played.
