Ike Boettger is an offensive tackle for the Buffalo Bills. He was signed by the Bills shortly after the 2018 NFL Draft as an undrafted free agent. Boettger played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes. In high school, Boettger was selected to compete in 2013 Iowa Shrine Game and was named first team all-state by Des Moines Register and Iowa Newspaper Association as a senior. He was also named first team all-conference and all-metro honors. Boettger played tight end, wide receiver, quarterback and defensive back as a prep while earning two letters. His efforts helped his prep team post a 22-4 record as a junior and senior, reaching state semifinals each season.

The former first-team All-Iowa picked at tight end actually started one game there as a redshirt freshman in 2014 (he played in eight games total), but it was in a blocking role in a two-tight end set. Boettger started six games at right tackle in 2015, but missed seven games due to a severe high-ankle sprain; he returned to play some snaps as a reserve in the Rose Bowl.

Boettger was a huge part of the Hawkeyes’ 2016 season, starting at three positions as the line tried to find the right mix and fought through injuries (he missed one game himself). He was an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick by league coaches and media after starting nine games at right tackle, one at left tackle, and two at left guard (including the team’s Outback Bowl loss to Florida).

Boettger’s senior year ended during the second week of the season when the starting right tackle suffered an Achilles injury during a win at Iowa State. At Iowa’s NFL Pro Day, Boettger ran an outstanding 5.3 40-yard dash just six months after tearing his Achilles. The offensive tackle also posted a 4.54 shuttle run, 7.45 in the three cone drill and a 29.5″ vertical jump.
