Description
Ironhead Gallon is a free agent strong safety, most recently playing for the Arizona Cardinals. Gallon signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2017. He was waived on September 2nd, 2017 after playing through training camp with a knee injury. He played college football at Georgia Southern.
As a big fan of former New Orleans Saint’s running back Cameron “Ironhead” Heyward, Gallon’s father began calling him “Ironhead” as a child. During his time at Georgia Southern friends and teammates also began calling him “Ironhead” and the nickname stuck.
Although it may have been a down year for the Georgia Southern Eagles, Gallon was one of the few defenders who never took a play off and was the best defensive player GS had in 2016. Fitting into the same mold as linebacker-safety hybrids such as Arizona Cardinal Deone Bucannon, Gallon can play a role in run support or covering backs and tight ends in passing downs.
In 2015 with the Georgia Southern Eagles, Gallon recorded 81 total tackles with 1.5 sacks and two blocked kicks. He finished second on the team in tackles while also adding 4.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and three pass breakups. In the UL Monroe game, Gallon blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown. He was the defensive star of the game finishing with 11 tackles, including a tackle for loss. Gallon finished the season strong against Bowling Green in the GoDaddy Bowl, recording three tackles, including a 9-yard sack in the win for the Eagles. For this tremendous effort, Gallon was an honorable mention selection to the All-Sun Belt squad.
Gallon had a standout season in 2016 after making the honorable mention squad the previous year. The Madison, Florida, native had 102 tackles, including 6.0 for loss, six pass breakups and a forced fumble. Gallon had a season-high 13 tackles against Western Michigan and a 66-yard punt return that set up a late touchdown against Louisiana. The safety recorded six games with 10+ tackles. For this tremendous effort, Gallon was named 2016 All-Sun Belt FIRST TEAM. (Coaches/Media)
In between the combine and the NFL Draft, NFL coaches and personnel — not to mention the prospects themselves — turn their attention to the various college “pro day” workouts. These are not as all-encompassing as the combine, but they are important enough for the key decision-makers in the league to travel around the country for more than a month to see the talent up close and personal.
The featured black and white nike vapor gloves were worn by Ironhead Gallon at Georgia Southern Eagles NFL Pro Day on March 30th, 2017 at Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia. While Matt Breida was the star of the day, Gallon showed his talent with a 4.50 40-yard dash, a 38.5 inch vertical leap, a 10’10 broad jump, a 4.41 20-yard shuttle, 6.71 three-cone drill and 18 reps on the 225.lb bench press. Gallon has signed the gloves and added “Worn for Pro Day” to the left one. Sweet pair of gloves!!!
