Description
Jason Fox is a free agent offensive tackle, most recently playing for the Miami Dolphins. Fox was drafted in the 4th Round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and signed a 3-year contract with them on June 24th, 2010. He played college football for the Miami Hurricanes, starting 47 games in 4 seasons. He even got involved in the offense a little bit in 2008, rushing for a 5-yard touchdown.
Fox was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. Miami Hurricanes former offensive line coach Mario Cristobal recruited him. At North Crowley High School, he played tight end during his junior year, moving to the offensive line as a senior. He was rated by Scout.com and Rivals.com as a four-star recruit.
The talented offensive tackle had many school offers but decided that he wanted to go play for the ‘U’, where he started at right tackle as a true freshman in the season opener against Florida State and became the starting left tackle midway through the season and held on to it for the remainder of his time at Miami. Fox started 47 games for the Hurricanes, two away from breaking the school start mark by an offensive lineman set by Richard Mercier and Mike Sullivan (48) and three away from tying the mark regardless of position by William Joseph. Before the start of Fox’ senior year, he was selected to his first Preseason All-ACC Team.
Fox is a tough, fundamentally sound blocker and was one of the highest-rated offensive tackles in the 2010 NFL Draft. He’s known as a terrific position blocker, keeps his feet moving, and anchors at the point, sealing defenders from the action. Fox can also be explosive, quickly getting his hands into defenders, and correctly placing them to keep opponents away. He has better-than-average footwork sliding out in pass protection and easily rides defenders from their angle of attack. He has a warrior mentality and has proven his willingness to play with pain. He played the whole 2009 season with knee damage which caused major pain, knowing that he would need surgery but not wanting to miss any playing time. He finally decided to have surgery and missed the Canes finale and Champ Sports Bowl.
