Description
Kade McClure is a pitcher in the Chicago White Sox Organization. McClure was selected in the sixth round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox and was an All-ACC Third Team honoree in third and final season with the Louisville Cardinals. McClure was 8-4 with a 3.58 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 18 starts and 103.0 innings pitched. He also capped his career ranked seventh in total wins at Louisville with 21 and was eighth in single season strikeouts with 111.
McClure was a four-year letterwinner in baseball at Mentor High School where he was ranked as the No. 4 player in the state of Ohio and 268th overall nationally by Perfect Game. McClure was also a First Team All-Central Region honoree by Perfect Game and earned First Team All-State accolades and was the conference Pitcher of the Year. The talented athlete also won a state championship in basketball at Mentor and earned three letters in basketball as an All-County standout and earned one letter in football as a quarterback.
In 2016 at Louisville, McClure was unstoppable earning All-America honors after finishing 12-0 with 2.54 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 13 starts and 15 total appearances on the mound. The talented pitcher became the nation’s second 12-game winner while striking out career best 11 in six innings against Wake Forest on May 25 at ACC Championship. For his 11th victory, he had 10 strikeouts in six innings beating Indiana on May 17th. His best game came against WKU on March 29 when he allowed just one hit in six shutout innings in victory. In the summer of 2016, McClure made four appearances, including three starts for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod League registering a 2.84 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 19.0 innings.
In 2020 with the Minor League Baseball Season getting canceled due to the pandemic, McClure still had the opportunity to spend much of October in Arizona at Chicago’s Instructional League competing against the Dodgers and Padres. He threw 13 innings and showed plenty of zip on his fastball, which clocked in between 92 and 95 mph.
In 2021 Spring Training with the White Sox, McClure was the only player to make much of an impact in the first week of action, acquitting himself well and getting his first career Cactus League start under his belt. His maturity continues to rise, as does his fastball velocity, earning him a spot in the alternate Schaumburg site and, eventually, the Charlotte rotation.
In three seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization, McClure owns an 8-7 record with a 3.05 ERA in 40 games, including 30 starts. In 174 1/3 innings pitched, he’s struck out 160 with a WHIP of 1.22.
