Kavon Frazier is a safety for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). Frazier was drafted in the 6th Round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played college football at Central Michigan University.
Frazier attended Grand Rapids Christian High School in Michigan, where he was a three-year starter. He received Division 3/4 All-State, Detroit Free Press All-Area and All-Conference Honors. He was a two-way player as a senior, registering 66 tackles, 858 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Frazier helped lead his team to a 10-1 record, conference title and berth in the state playoff district finals in 2011. The versatile athlete was also a three-year letterman in basketball and two-year letterman in track and field Frazier led a basketball team which won a pair of conference titles and a district title in 2011. More importantly, he maintained a 3.48 grade point average in high school.
In 2015, Frazier started all 13 games for the Central Michigan Chippewas and earned second team All-MAC honors. Kavon Frazier led the Chippewas and ranked ninth in the MAC with 108 tackles. Frazier recorded a team-high 74 unassisted tackles, and ranked second in the MAC in that category. His career-best 13-tackle performance vs. Oklahoma State (9/3) earned him MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week. He also recorded 12 tackles including season-high nine unassisted vs. Toledo on November 10th, 2015. Frazier made at least five tackles in all 12 games. He also showed his ability on special teams by blocking a punt against Eastern Michigan (11/27), an effort which led him to being named MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Frazier concluded his Central Michigan Chippewas career playing in 51 games and registering 161 solo tackles and 269 total tackles. The safety also added 5 (TFL) Tackles for Loss, 3 (FF)Forced Fumbles, 3 (FR)Fumble Recoveries and 5 Interceptions for 79 yards.
Frazier was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round (212th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he played mainly on special teams and was declared inactive in 4 games. He tallied 2 defensive tackles and 4 special teams tackles. In 2017, he tied for the team lead with 10 special teams tackles and finished the season with 33 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.
The safety from Grand Rapids Christian earned his 1st Official NFL Start at free safety in the Dallas Cowboys 2018 season opener, a 16-8 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He led the team with eight tackles (four solo, one for a loss) and a pass deflection. Frazier had overcame a lot in training camp to get the start. The third-year veteran first faced a threat of a blood disorder that sidelined him for a week while further tests were conducted. Once cleared, he separated his shoulder just short of two week before the opener, but didn’t missed any time. He popped the shoulder back in place and an MRI revealed no structural damage. He played in the opener with a shoulder harness.
