Description
Kevin Davidson is a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). After going undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, Davidson signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2020. In July 2015, Davidson committed to play college football at University of California Davis. Davidson later uncommitted and on February 3, 2016, committed to play football for the Princeton Tigers.
Davidson grew up in the small town of Danville, California (pop. 42,000), 23 miles east of Oakland, and attended San Ramon Valley High School. He had the talent to play big-time prep football and, he said, yearned for an opportunity. So after his father took a job that required him to work in San Francisco and the peninsula before Davidson’s junior season, he transferred to McClymonds High, a predominantly black school in West Oakland with a football factory of sorts coached by Marcus Peters’ father, Michael Peters.
Davidson started 4-0 in his only season at McClymonds before all hell broke loose. Accusations were made that Davidson’s transfer was done for athletic purposes only. The state’s governing body for athletics, after an investigation that included surveillance of the family home, agreed and disallowed the transfer, making Davidson ineligible to play high school football again.
His time at McClymonds was not entirely lost. He made many close friendships that he still holds today. The experience introduced him to future Hall of Famer Marshawn Lynch and Josh Johnson, the longtime NFL quarterback. Lynch, Johnson and Marcus Peters are all cousins, with Lynch and Johnson having attended Oakland Tech, and Peters having gone to McClymonds.
In 2019, Davidson started 10 games for Princeton. In his one year as a starter, he completed 209 of 313 passes for 2,569 yards, 20 touchdowns and a 104.6 passer rating. He had the fifth-best single-season passing yardage total and fourth-best number of touchdown passes in a season in program history. Davidson ranks second all-time at Princeton in lowest career interception percentage (trailing only John Lovett) and yards per attempt (trailing only Dick Kazmaier), and he is third all-time in career completion percentage (behind Jason Garrett and Lovett) Davidson also set the Ivy League record for touchdown passes in a game with seven (against Bucknell) He also threw five TD passes against Brown, becoming the first Princeton player with at least two career games of five or more TD passes. For his stellar effort, Davidson was invited to the East-West Shrine Bowl as well as the NFL Combine.
The East-West Shrine Game is the oldest and one of the most respected of the post-season collegiate bowl games. Since 1925, the game has been known for the quality of the players and coaches, as well as for the excitement of great college football action. But that’s not what makes the game “Football’s Finest Hour.” What makes the East-West Game so special is its true purpose — helping to support Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Every year since 1925, the East-West Game has been played to raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children and to raise awareness about the expert orthopaedic, burn, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and cleft lip and palate care, available at no charge to patients and families, through the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children. The players themselves regard the game in a special light, as they learn the true purpose of the game during a pre-game visit to the Shriners Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
The featured East -West Shrine Game Towel was game used by Kevin Davidson in the 2020 East-West Shrine Game. This was one of two towels used by Davidson in the game. Davidson used another towel that featured a 100th anniversary logo and a chip in it that connected to footballs for velocity testing. The 2020 East–West Shrine Bowl was the 95th staging of the all–star college football exhibition to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children. The game was played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on January 18, 2020. Davidson was part of the victorious East Team that edged the West 31-27. The talented quarterback went 6 for 11 for 52 yards in passing. Benny LeMay was the offensive MVP running for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns! Davidson has signed the front of the towel and added “31-27” in black. He has also added “Game Used” to the velcro part of the back of the towel. Unique piece of memorabilia directly from the Cleveland Browns quarterback!!!
