Faulkner appeared in 32 games during his career at the University of Southern Illinois, completing 490 of 823 pass attempts for 5,347 yds and 34 TDs. His 5,347 career passing yards ranked 4th while his 34 touchdowns is 5th in school history. As a senior in 2013, Faulkner started the first 8 games of the season before suffering a fractured finger. He completed 165 of 272 pass attempts for 1,997 yards and 18 TDs. He also led the Southern Illinois’ offense to a 46.4 third-down-conversion percentage last season, 14th-best in FCS football. Faulkner led the Missouri Valley Football Conference with 221.9 passing yds. per game and 248.2 yds. of total offense per game. He also ran for 238 yards and 2 TDs.
At Southern Illinois Pro Day, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound former state football MVP ran a 4.67 in the 40, which was better than the NFL’s target time of 4.9 for quarterbacks. Faulkner also benched 225 pounds 19 times; his vertical jump was 34 inches (30 inches is the target for QBs), and his broad jump was 9 feet-8 inches (9-0 target). Shortly after the 2014 NFL draft, Faulkner signed with the 49ers as a free agent and was one of four guys competing for the backup spot behind Colin Kaepernick. Former San Francisco Head Coach Jim Harbaugh raved about his focus, commitment and leadership.
The featured size 11.5 white and black adidas shoes were worn by Faulkner on Southern Illinois Salukis Pro Day in 2014. Faulkner ran his 40-yard dash in front of scouts and coaches in these dynamite shoes. The quarterback has signed both shoes and added “Pro Day 40” to the left shoe in black.
