He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in finance in December 2018.
Morrissey was a three-year starter at safety and wide receiver for Coach Bill McNamara at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois. He helped the Patriots to a combined record of 28-9 (.757), including three-straight conference championships. The talented safety recorded 107 tackles (70 solos, 37 assists), including three for losses, four interceptions and five pass break-ups in 2013. As a wide receiver, he had 43 receptions for 783 yards (18.2 avg.) and 10 TDs. He was named Daily Herald Lake County All-Area Player of the Year in 2013 and also selected Pioneer Press All-Area Defensive Player of the Year.
The Spartan tradition in the Morrissey family began when Morrissey’s father, Jim, played football at Michigan State from 1981-84 and notched first-team All-Big Ten honors before going on to play in the NFL for nine seasons. The Spartan torch then traveled to his older sister, Anna, who was a three-year letterwinner on the women’s basketball team from 2012-14, winning a Big Ten Championship. Then Morrissey would finally get his chance to represent Michigan State. Being steps away from committing to Boston College during his senior year of high school, Morrissey received a phone call that would change everything. He received an offer from Coach Dantonio to be a Michigan State Spartan.
In his senior season with the Spartans, Morrissey recorded 29 tackles (14 solo, 15 assists) with two interceptions and one pass break-up in playing all 13 games. He also ranked fourth on the team with six special teams tackles. (three on kickoffs, three on punts) Morrissey caught his first career interception at Arizona State, snaring the pass at the MSU 12-yard line and denying ASU’s drive right before halftime, adding five stops, finishing with 14 production points, which led secondary and shared team lead. Against Purdue, he grabbed another interception and notched four tackles coming up big on back-to-back plays, first making a tackle on kickoff after MSU took a 23-13 lead, then ensuing play grabbing the interception to seal the victory and MSU ran out clock. He was named to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week for his performance against the Boilermakers. Morrissey also tallied three tackles at Penn State, along with a pass break-up on the final play, batting down PSU’s Hail Mary attempt to seal the victory for MSU.
