Description
Matt Skura is a center for the New York Giants of the National Football League. Skura was signed by the Baltimore Ravens shortly after the 2016 NFL Draft as an undrafted free agent. Skura has also been a member of the Miami Dolphins. The talented offensive lineman played college football for the Duke Blue Devils. Prior to college, Skura was a three-year letterman at Worthington Kilbourne under coach Vince Trombetti. The talented center was listed as the No. 13 center in the nation by ESPN.com and served as team captain as a senior.
In 2015 at Duke, Matt Skura was an All-America selection by USA Today (2nd team), Phil Steele (4th team) and Sports Illustrated (HM) The talented center was also a first team All-ACC choice by both the league’s head coaches and Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association and an ESPN All-Bowl Team pick following the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Skura was recipient of the Dan “Tiger” Hill Award as Duke’s most outstanding offensive lineman and helped the Blue Devils finish third in the ACC in total offense, fifth in scoring offense, fifth rushing offense and fifth in passing offense as Duke joined Clemson and North Carolina as the only schools to rank among the top five in all four categories. Skura was a key member of an offense that matched the school single-season standard with eight games with 30+ points, equaling the record set in both 2012 and 2013. He led an offensive front that ranked second in the ACC and sixth nationally in fewest tackles for loss allowed per game. (4.15)
The four-year starter played some guard as a redshirt freshman, but his home is in the pivot, where his intelligence can be fully utilized. Skura is smart with terrific awareness, showing both pre- and post-snap anticipation to make the correct line calls and put himself in position to protect the pocket. The 2014 third-team All-ACC selection’s name isn’t known by even more ardent college football fans, but he should be recognized nationally as one of the reasons head coach David Cutcliffe has risen the bar for the football program in Durham.
Matt Skura played in 50 career games (40 starts) and played 3,058 total snaps for the Blue Devils. Skura started 40 consecutive contests at center to close career and helped Duke to 33 wins including the 2013 ACC Coastal Division championship and four bowl game appearances (2012 Belk, 2013 Chick-fil-A, 2014 Hyundai Sun and 2015 New Era Pinstripe). The former Duke Blue Devils offensive captain has a bright NFL future!
