Matthew Swain is a pitcher in the Minnesota Twins Organization. He was Drafted in the 23rd round by the Minnesota Twins in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft. Swain attended Georgia Gwinnett College and appeared in 33 Games for the Grizzlies from 2018-2019. Prior to that, he attended Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama. Swain grew up in Stone Mountain, GA and went to Redan High School.
For the Grizzlies, Swain posted a 4-3 record in his college baseball career with all four victories coming in the 2019 season. The right-hander also registered two of his three saves in 2019. In his career, he appeared in 33 games and had 53 Strikeouts, led by 28 during the 2019 campaign. He also gave up only 28 hits in 43 total innings and had a 3.32 ERA while holding opponents to a .177 average. He was an integral part of the 2019 team which won the Association of Independent Institutions title. He also picked up the victory in the 2019 Lawrenceville Bracket Opening Round championship game. Swain was part of the Georgia Gwinnett 2019 and 2018 teams which advanced to the semifinal round of the Avista NAIA World Series.
In 2019, Swain played for the Gulf Coast League Twins. The Florida Complex League Twins are the Rookie-level affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, competing in the Florida Complex League of Minor League Baseball. The team plays in Fort Myers, Florida, at the Lee County Sports Complex. Prior to 2021, the team was known as the Gulf Coast League Twins. Swain pitched in 11 games and went 1-0 with 3 Saves in 3 opportunities for the Twins. In 2021, Swain was assigned to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, the Low-A Southeast and the Low-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Swain pitched well going 6-2 in 35 appearances and collecting 5 Saves.
