Description
Ryan Spadola is a free agent wide receiver most recently playing for the Detroit Lions in the National Football League. He was signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2013. Spadola has also been a member of the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons. He played college football at Lehigh.
Spadola was a member of the Super 100 Athletes in New Jersey. He went to Freehold Township High School and graduated in 2009. He was among the players in the Top 170 in the country and was a member of the All-Shore Team while at high school.
A prototypical possession receiver, Spadola has the physical tools to be a difference-maker for an NFL team. With strong hands, confidence over the middle, and precision route running, the former Mountain Hawk brings the well-rounded skill set to the table that the NFL teams need from their receiving corps.
Spadola had 232 career receptions for 3611 yards and 24 Touchdowns with the Mountain Hawks. In addition to the Jets and Colts, he also drew interest from the Giants, Buccaneers, Dolphins and Panthers, showcased his talents leading up to the draft at the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game and was one of approximately 300 draft hopefuls to participate in the annual NFL Combine in Indianapolis. He honed his skills at Brandon Marshall’s Fit Speed Athletic Performance in Florida before headlining Lehigh’s Pro Day in early March.
Spadola was a breakout star in 2013 training camp and preseason, helping the Jets defeat the Giants in Week 3 of the preseason, thanks to his three catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. The wide receiver also caught a 70-yard pass from Matt Simms to set up Billy Cundiff’s game-winning field goal in the game. Two days later, former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan highlighted Spadola (whom he nicknamed “Spicoli”) and Simms during a film study session with reporters. Referring to Spadola, the Jets coach said: “All he does is show up and make plays.”
The NFL Scouting Combine is a week-long showcase, occurring every February in Indianapolis, Indiana Lucas Oil Stadium (and formerly at the RCA Dome until 2008), where college football players perform physical and mental tests in front of NFL coaches, general managers and scouts. With increasing interest in the NFL Draft, the scouting combine has grown in scope and significance, allowing personnel directors to evaluate upcoming prospects in a standardized setting.
Ryan Spadola measured in at 6 foot 1, 204 pounds at the NFL Combine. The wide receiver had a stellar combine with a 4.48 40-yard dash, 15 reps on 225 pound bench press, 33.5 on vertical jump, 6.72 three cone drill, 4.07 20-yard shuttle, 60-yard shuttle 11:35 seconds and 119 inches on broad jump.
The featured size 13 orange, gray and black adidas adizero cleats were issued to Ryan Spadola by Adidas at the 2013 NFL Combine. Although Under Armour has the exclusive license to outfit players in apparel designed specifically for the event, additional companies including nike and adidas could provide participating athletes with apparel as well. These shoes feature SPRINTFRAME construction which balances light weight and stability. The former Mountain Hawk didn’t end up wearing these shoes but has signed both and added “NFL COMBINE” in black.
**Please note that the cleats are neon orange, black and gray. Sorry for the glare in images.
